Mobile safari
a camp that moves with you
The word mobile does the most work in Okavango pricing and the least work in Okavango marketing. It describes a specific and very good way to see the Delta, and it is routinely confused with both backpacking and fly-in lodge safaris. It is neither.
How it works
A crew travels with or ahead of you. While you are out on a morning drive they strike camp, drive to the next site, pitch walk-in tents with beds and linen, set up a bucket-shower and long-drop, and start cooking. You arrive to a made camp in a different habitat, every two or three nights.
Two variants are usually quoted under the same name. A serviced mobile safari has the crew do everything. A participation mobile safari expects you to pitch, wash up and cook over the fire, and costs substantially less for that reason. Ask which one you are being quoted — the difference is large and the descriptions are often identical.

The question that decides it
Ask what the flood is doing where this itinerary goes. A mobile safari's big advantage is habitat range, but its water activities are not guaranteed: mokoro needs depth in the channels, and depth depends on both the month and the year. In a low-water year, or in October, an itinerary sold as including mokoro may not run it. The operators who answer that question specifically are the ones worth booking.
